Caleb and I went out for some portraits this May. He wanted his portraits to be in the style of "urban grunge," so I'm pretty proud of what I came up with.

Just finished editing photos from a beautiful wedding from March. Stephanie and Jones Reagan got married during my Spring Break, and I'm so glad that I got a chance to record this event. Here are some of the photos:

Alpha & Omega group show; opens 20th!

Three of my photos were accepted into the Alpha and Omega group show in Austin, Texas! The show opens Saturday, February 20th, and if you're in Austin, you should go! The gallery is at 507 San Jacinto, or if you like intersections better, it's at the intersection of 5th and San Jacinto. Here are the three photos that made it into the show:

Macro Series

I've spent some time lately meditating on what I'd like to accomplish with my macro series, and concluded that I enjoy the rhythms and joyful movements of the lines found in nature... leaves and flower petals have beautiful flowing lines that sometimes do and sometimes don't follow patterns easily discernible by the casual viewer. I bought a few plants and experimented around a bit. Even though at the beginning of my experimentation (the previous post) i was mainly looking at leaves, with these photos I was focusing on flowers.

In other news, I've been reading a lot lately. I read Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Both books were fascinating, probably more fascinating than anything I've ever read (except Harry Potter, but that's assumed).

Almost Christmas; working on macro series

So this is my first post on my newly-renovated (read: scrubbed clean) blog. I deleted all my previous posts from about four years ago and have decided to actually blog on here.

I got my 100mm macro lens, about which I'm very excited, and have taken a few pictures using it to kind of get an idea of what I'd like to do for a series. I'm mainly wanting to examine the ways in which natural forms become abstracted at a certain point of magnification, and I'm particularly fascinated by leaves. So here are some of my experiments from my trip to Brackenridge Park the other day; the last two are the abstract forms I'm hoping to explore some more.

I also just got back my first roll of film on my Canon Elan II camera. The roll I used this time was Kodak Portra 160VC. I was basically just messing around, especially with the double (and triple) exposure feature. Here are a few of my favorites from the roll:

Hopefully in the next few days I will: finish the collage I'm making for my parents for Christmas, finish reading Art/Work and The Artist's Guide, and start and/or finish the macro series.
